Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss how to understand the quantum aspects of black hole thermodynamics from the strongly coupled dynamics of QFT. In particular, I derive the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of a supersymmetric AdS4 black hole by counting quantum states in a holographic dual QFT. Non-perturbative monopole states play a crucial role in this counting, and I explain how to understand the N^(3/2) growth of the black hole entropy by partial deconfinement due to monopole condensation. I also briefly mention ongoing work on the evidence of a new black hole solution and other related topics.
