Abstract:In the construction of an effective field theory, simple dimensional analysis usually assumes that all the Wilson coefficients of the higher dimensional operators be parametrically O(1). Recent new positivity bounds suggest that dimensional analysis is actually a rigorous theorem in quantum field theory! These new positivity bounds require all the Wilson coefficient to be bounded both from below and above. They are derived by merely assuming the UV theory satisfies fundamental principles of S-matrix such as unitarity, causality and crucially full crossing symmetry.
